The Mac OS X Print architecture parses the contents of a Postscript Printer Description (PPD) file to interpret the printing system features, then builds a user interface based on that information. The installer provides PPD files for the printing systems.\

\b\fs26 \cf0 Setting the Emulation Mode at the Operation Panel\
\pard\pardeftab720\ri2260

\b0\fs24 \cf0 \
You must change the Printer Description Language (PDL) emulation before using the printing system for the first time. To change the emulation: at the printing system\'92s operation panel, go to the printer menu, select Emulation, then select KPDL, for PostScript only environments, or KPDL (AUTO) for print environments requiring both PCL and PostScript. If necessary, use your printer's Operation Guide to determine how KPDL is selected for your printing device. \

\b\fs26 \cf0 Changes in Mac OS X v.10.6\
\
\pard\pardeftab720\ri2260

\b0\fs24 \cf0 AppleTalk is no longer supported as a printer protocol in Mac OS X v10.6. The default protocol is Bonjour.
\b\fs26 \
\
Changes in Mac OS X v.10.5 \

\b0\fs24 \
For Mac OS X v.10.5 only, the Printer Setup Utility has been removed and printer installation is accessed through the System Preferences / Print & Fax menus. Mac OS X v.10.5 also uses Bonjour (formerly Rendezvous) as the default printer discovery setting. For auto configuration to work with printing systems, AppleTalk must be enabled. When the printing system is turned on with the emulation set to KPDL, connected to your computer with AppleTalk enabled, Mac OS X v.10.5 will recognize the printer and select the appropriate PPD. \
\
1. From the Apple menu, click System Preferences then Print & Fax.\
2. Click Options and Supplies.\
3. Click the Driver Menu.\
4. Select the driver from the list and configure the installed options.\
\
a.
\b AppleTalk
\b0 : Select the appropriate AppleTalk zone. The printing system must be turned on, connected to an AppleTalk network, and set to KPDL emulation. Your printing system will appear as an AppleTalk printer in the Printer List. \
\
b.
\b IP Printer using LPD:
\b0 Enter the IP address of your printing system and select the PPD for your system from the Printer Model menu. The printing system must be turned on, connected to a network and set to KPDL emulation. Your printing system will appear as an LPR host printer in the Printer List.\
\
c.
\b USB:
\b0 When USB is selected, the Mac OS will display a list of available USB connected printing systems. The printing system must be turned on, set to KPDL emulation, and connected with a USB cable.\
\
d.
\b IPP:
\b0 When IPP is selected, enter the IP address or host name (for example \\\\ktd.com\\my_printer)\
\
5. Select the printing system and click Add.\
6. Once the printing system is installed, quit the Print Center/Printer Setup Utility.\

\b\fs26 \cf0 Known Issues
\b0\fs24 \
\
Bar Codes: To print barcodes, a hard disk must be installed in the printing system and Job Storage must be set to Temporary.\
\

\b\fs26 About USB connections\
\pard\pardeftab720\ri2260

\b0\fs24 \cf0 \
Connecting a printing system to the built-in USB port on an Apple Pro Keyboard may generate an alert message or result in a connection failure. For best results, connect your USB printing system directly to your computer or to a compatible USB hub. \

\b\fs26 \cf0 Resource Saving - Paper\
\pard\pardeftab720\ri2260

\b0\fs24 \cf0 \
For the preservation and sustainable use of forest resources, it is recommended that recycled as well as virgin paper certified under environmental stewardship initiatives or carrying recognised ecolabels, which meet EN 12281:2002*1 or an equivalent quality standard, be used.\
\
This machine also supports printing on 64 g/m^2 paper. Using such paper containing less raw materials can lead to further saving of forest resources.\

\b\fs26 \cf0 Energy Efficiency - Energy Star (ENERGY STAR\'ae) Program\
\pard\pardeftab720\ri2260

\b0\fs24 \cf0 \
ENERGY STAR\'ae is a voluntary energy efficiency program with the goal of developing and promoting the use of products with high energy efficiency in order to help prevent global warming. By purchasing ENERGY STAR\'ae qualified products, customers can help reduce emissions of greenhouse gases during product use and cut energy-related costs.\
\
\pard\pardeftab720\ri2260

\b\fs26 \cf0 Environmental benefits of \'93Duplex Printing\'94
\b0\fs24 \
\
Printing in duplex mode reduces paper consumption and contributes to the conservation of forest resources. Duplex mode also reduces the amount of paper that must be purchased, and thereby reduces cost. It is recommended that machines capable of duplex printing be set to use duplex mode by default.\
\

\b\fs26 Environmental benefits of \'93Power Management\'94
\b0\fs24 \
\
To reduce power consumption when idle, this machine is equipped with a power management function that automatically activates energy-saving mode when the machine is idle for a certain period of time.\
Although it takes the machine a slight amount of time to return to READY mode when in energy-saving mode, a significant reduction in energy consumption is possible.\
It is recommended that the machine be used with the activation time for energy-saving mode set to the default setting.\
