LapSafe
The LapSafe is a self-service laptop trolley for student use to self issue laptops within the KR Library. The trolley allows laptops to be charged when not in use. The LapSafe links into the Alma system for issuing and discharging of laptops.
Location: The LapSafe is located on the upper ground floor in the discussion zone in the Library at Kedleston Road as shown in the pictures below:
Instructions to issue a laptop:
Step 1: In the centre of the LapSafe, on the screen, touch ‘4 Hour Laptop loan or 2 week loan’
Step 2: 'Scan' your student card in the slot below the screen
Step 3: On the screen 'accept' the Terms and Conditions
Step 4: Please take note of the 'Return Time' and 'Bay Number'
Step 5: The bay number will 'flash' now move to the relevant column
Step 6: 'Open' the door of the lapSafe
Step 7: 'Unplug' and 'remove the Laptop'
Step 8: 'Close the door' of the lapSafe
LAPTOP LOAN SERVICE TERMS & CONDITIONS - 4 hour loan
I agree to the following Terms and Conditions:
1. I will provide my personal student ID card and allow my details to be used for administration of the service.
2. I recognise that the laptop will remain the property of the University of Derby and borrowers must comply with the University’s IT Acceptable Use policy: https://www.derby.ac.uk/services/its/policies/
3. I recognise that the laptop will be loaned for a 4 hour period.
4. I am responsible for the return of any item which is borrowed by me, and I am responsible for any loss or damage incurred.
5. I will collect a laptop from the Library LapSafe to use the laptop.
6. I will only use the laptop whilst studying at the University and recognise the laptop cannot be used by University of Derby Alumni or visitors.
7. I will contact the Library helpdesk immediately if I notice any damage to the laptop.
8. If the returned laptop is found to be damaged or unclean, I recognise that I may incur charges for repair or replacement.
9. If I fail to return the laptop after three reminders, I will be required to pay the total cost of the replacement up to a maximum of £500.
10. I recognise that the University is not responsible for any damage to files or local data loss incurred whilst using the laptop.
11. I will strongly consider using Cloud Storage to ensure files are not lost.
12. I will use AppsAnywhere/Cloudpaging Player to access the software needed for my studies and I am aware that additional software installs / requests are not permitted on the laptop.
13. I will return the laptop at the end of the loan period to ensure it is available for other students.
14. I will log out of the laptop before returning it and I will ensure that my work is backed up before returning the laptop.
15. I understand I need to plug the laptop back in otherwise the system will not register the return of the device and could incur charges.
