Following checks can be made by ORCs or by reception desk staff in the library.
Access gates lead into the Kedleston Road library.
The access gates pc is next to the disabled gate.
Telepen Sentry Juno is the client on the pc.
Check all the cables around the silver controller unit under the reception desk ( a mini pc ):
a. the power cable (look at the white extension cable and push in all the power plugs)
b. the network cable that goes to the phone then into the network socket
c. the serial cable that goes to the gates.
d. the network cable that goes to the back of the silver controller box under the desk (ought to be a flashing green light next to the ethernet cable).
Loose cables are the most common cause of problems.
If there were problems with the network or data centre infrastructure, then that can oddly affect the Sentry Juno system. For example, the client might be running, but no record of cards made. Or the gates beep a lot for cards.
Try turning the silver controller box off and on again. Follow the black power cable back to the white electrical sockets and then pull out and push in the plug. ( the power button on the unit is underneath it, due to how the unit was mounted on the desk ).
If there have been recent network/infrastructure issues and if the cables and phone cable have been checked then log call for BS team to restart senju-prd-da01. (windows server, use RDP to connect and zz- account to login).
1. try your ID card on all gates. On the access gates pc look at Telepen Sentry > Window > Member Enquiry >
Does the P number (above the barcode) appear?
01 is far gate, 02 is near gate, 03 is disabled gate. Did the P number appear on which? Or did it not appear on a gate?
Does a gate open?
When you tried a gate did it beep many times and prevent you from entering?
2. ask Reception desk staff if the gates are in online or local mode.
Use key 23 from the key cabinet on the reception desk and turn the slot on the front of the gate.
Try cards again.
Do cards work?
Is anything registering in Window > Member Enquiry?

8. If the gates are still not working, log a call for Business Systems via itservicecentre@derby.ac.uk
Or contact a.donnelly@telepen.co.uk
(The provider, Telepen, do not have a support desk or support system. You just email Adrian Donnelly directly)
9. Please note the gates are NOT on maintenance, so to call out an engineer a purchase order needs to be raised first. It can take several days to get an engineer.
10. If the gates are causing lots of problems and queues, pull out the power sockets (labelled "gates" and "disabled"). That will force the gates permanently open. (If there was a fire and the power failed then the gates are designed to pop open automatically).
