How to Install Applications onto Managed University Staff Laptops

For software not available to be added through the standard 'UOD Software' link on the desktop, the following method can be used to install applications from their core installation files. Please note this procedure applies to managed staff laptops only, not desktop PCs.

This procedure 'elevates' the installation process with administrative rights, so that the software can be installed in the same manner you would follow on a home PC or laptop:

  • Obtain/download the required installation file(s) (e.g. setup.exe, setup.msi etc.)
  • Right-click on the main installation file and select 'Run with elevated rights'.


  • You will be prompted to confirm that the application you wish to install adheres to University policy. Please review the policy via the on-screen link provided, and click 'Yes' if you wish to proceed with the installation.

  • At this point follow the bespoke on-screen installation instructions for the software at hand.

 

Please note to uninstall an application that has been installed by the above means, you will need to use the utility 'Avecto Programs and Features Manager' which is located at 'C:\Program Files\Avecto\Privilege Guard Client\PGProgramsUtil.exe' on the laptop.
After launching this utility simply highlight the application you wish to remove from the list, and click 'Uninstall'.
