As part of this year’s ITS summer refresh project, we’re taking the opportunity to audit the University’s teaching software by looking at staff requirements for the new academic year and reviewing what could be retired from the system.
With this in mind, all academic staff should now confirm which teaching software titles they require for 2018/19.
This should include:
- Name of the software
- The version number required, if not the latest
- Where you require this installing/making available (site name and room number)
- Name of college or department
- Name of a suitable member of staff that can test/sign off the software as working correctly
- Any other relevant information regarding the application
If you have software requests going through college business plans ensure we’re informed of these as well.
Please email the above information to the IT Service Centre, with the subject heading: “Student Software Refresh 2018” before Monday 28 May 2018.
We cannot guarantee that any requests received after this date will be available for use from September.
It is our intention to run the latest version of the application available at the time of packaging. If you require a specific older version, please highlight this in your request. Where possible, IT Services offer updates of most titles twice a year, in summer and January. Updates outside of these times are not generally approved unless previously agreed with us or a genuine need arises for the update; such as a critical security patch.
As we complete the update on specialist software, we will need to contact the member of staff nominated above to test and approve beyond the testing IT Services perform. We are trying to minimise the disruption sometimes seen when software is not fully tested in time for teaching and appreciate your help in giving our students the best experience possible.
