This guide will go through the procedure of resetting your staff account password while knowing your present/old password.
Important: If you are signed into a staff PC, please remember to log out and back after changing your password.
Working from home: If you change your password while off-campus and you are using a university-provided laptop and sign out, you will need to use your old password to sign back into your laptop. This does not apply if you are connected via VPN on the laptop as your password will update automatically.
There are several ways in which you can change your password:
Via Staff ID
1. If you are a member of staff based on campus, the easiest (and most trusted) way to change your password is to log into the Staff iD site and select Me@Derby > Change Password
2. The link will take you to change password site;
3. Enter your current password into the Old password box;
4. Enter a new password into the Create new password & Confirm new password boxes;
The password must contain:
- Uppercase letters
- Lowercase letters
- A number (from 0 to 9)
- At least 8 characters
The password must not contain:
- Your name
- Your username
- A password you have previously used in the system
Important: Ensure you update the password on all devices where you have used eduroam or logged into your university email account (webmail), otherwise your account may continually lock.
Off-Campus
Use this option if you have 'MENT' or 'OS' account or Staff based on campus with an 'STF', '78XXXX' or '30XXXX' account.
1. Click here to go the password change site. This will take you to the password change site;
2. In the User ID box, enter your username followed by @derby.ac.uk;
3. Enter the characters from the image;
4. Click Next;
5. Ensure that I've forgotten my password is selected and click Next;
6. Choose your preferred communication method so a code can be sent for verification;
7. Retrieve the verification code from either your email, text, or phone call and enter this into the text box on screen;
8. Enter a new password. The complexity requirements are as follows:
The password must contain:
- Uppercase letters
- Lowercase letters
- A number (from 0 to 9)
- At least 8 characters
The password must not contain:
-
Your name
- Your username
- A password you have previously used in the system
On a University PC
You can also press 'ctrl' + 'alt' and 'del' on your keyboard then select the Change Password option in the list. Ensure you log out and back into Windows after using this option.
Note: Do not use the Reset password link on the lock screen (i.e. if you select Lock from the start menu or press ctrl and L) as this method will not work.
