Ezproxy, EBSO and HSTS error
Ezproxy is the main authentication system for library ebooks and ejournals.
With EBSCO websites, there is an issue that occurs in some browsers due to EBSCO using http on some of their servers and https on other servers.
In Chrome if you goto libguides.derby.ac.uk then to Library Plus the link goes to
That link then redirects to
https://search.ebscohost.com.ezproxy.derby.ac.uk/login.aspx?authtype=ip,uid&profile=eds
at that point an error appears on Chrome
The error also appears if https is used in the weblink ie:
which redirects to
http://eds.b.ebscohost.com.ezproxy.derby.ac.uk/start?key=10.81.11.199_8000_32906644&site=eds
At this point the EBSCO server is using http which causes the error
Workaround 1: Use Incognito mode
The Library is in contact with EBSCO about the issue, but in the meantime a workaround is to use Incognito mode in Chrome:
Click on the 3 dots at the top right and choose New Incognito Window
Then goto https://libguides.derby.ac.uk then choose "Library Plus".
Chrome says "Not secure" as the server is http but the page displays
Workaround 2: Clear browser cache:
Please clear the cache in your web browser, for details see
Workaround 3: Use a different browser:
Some other browsers such as Firefox do not show the error message and allow browsing as normal.
Workaround 4: Use Shibboleth authentication
If this is still an issue then the alternative is to use Shibboleth authentication. Please contact library@derby.ac.uk for instructions on how to use Shibboleth to access library ejournals.
To use Shibboleth authentication with EBSCO Library Plus:
https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?authtype=ip,uid&profile=eds
Click on "Institutional Login" (ignore the login box)
Click on "View All Institutions".
Use Control + F to search on the page for "University of Derby". Or scroll down the page, near to the bottom of the list.
Click on "University of Derby".
There might be a university login page, but it might pick up an existing login automatically.
