When it's time to set up your account with the University/College, you'll receive an email as shown below with a 3 stage process. The email will be sent from email@example.com subject named "It's time to set up your University of Derby account". If you can't find it in your inbox, please check your junk/SPAM folder. It will look like the screenshot provided below.
Please read the information provided in the email and click on the start button to open the Password Creation Centre screens.

Huge congratulations on gaining a place with us.
It is now time to set up your University/College account, which you will use throughout your study with us.
This is a 3 stage process:
- Create your password
- Complete steps to fully enrol on your course
- Provide additional details so that you're never locked out of your account
Here's more information on each stage.
Stage 1: Create a password by clicking the 'Start' button below. You will need to verify your identity by entering your date of birth. Once you've created your password, we'll then prepare your account for enrolment so please monitor your email inbox for stage 2 instructions. This can take a few days so please bear with us while we complete these processes.
Stage 2: Next Steps Information (please use the Student ID above)
All students, except Online Learning and Buxton & Leek College:
A few days after setting up your password, you will receive an email inviting you to our student portal (UDo) to upload your photo for an ID card. You’ll be able to find out more about induction here too. Once enrolment opens you will receive a second email inviting you to complete online enrolment.
If you experience any problems enrolling, please visit our enrolment web page to view our FAQs or to contact us. If you are starting an MPhil, PhD, or MPhil/PhD course and experience problems enrolling, please contact our Research Student Office, T: +44 (0)1332 591060 / E: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Online Learning students only:
You will receive an email inviting you to enrol which will include all of the information you will need to complete enrolment. If you have any queries or do not receive this invitation, please contact the UDOL team on +44(0)1332 594000 option 3.
Buxton & Leek College students only:
You should have all you need in the letter you will have received by post from the College. If you have any questions, please contact Buxton & Leek College on 0800 0740099.
Stage 3: Please note you'll need to use both your university email address and your Student ID for this stage which are shown at the top of this email.
Provide more details so that you can reset your password at any time. For this, you will need your student email address and student ID, which are shown at the top of this email. Please note we would suggest you wait until you have finished your enrolment before completing step 3.

Before you start, we would advise you to use a laptop or a PC as you may need to switch browsers (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Safari) or use a private window. This is because, if your personal email address is a Microsoft account the browser may log you into that account rather than your University account.

Stage 1 - Creating your password
1. Please read the information on the page below and click on the start button.

Welcome to the Password Creation Centre, which is the 1st in the 3 stage process.
Here you will create a password to access University/College systems. It’s a very simple process where you’ll enter your date of birth as verification of who you are.
However, if you need any help through the process, please call 01332591234 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are a Buxton & Leek College student, you can also visit your college library between the hours 9am – 5pm , Monday – Friday
2. Once you have clicked on the start button, you will navigate to the page below which requires you to verify your DOB. Please ensure that you use the date picker, please choose the year first, then the relevant month and day. Date should be in dd/mm/yyyy format. Once you have verified your date of birth, you can navigate to Stage 1 by clicking on the continue button.

3. Next you'll be be asked to create a password. Please read the "Password Requirements" instructions on the right hand side before you create a password. Click on "Set up stage 1" once you have typed in the passwords:

4. Once you have clicked on "Set up stage 1" and have successfully created your password, you will navigate to the page shown below:

Congratulations Zak, you've now completed stage 1 of your password creation.
Once enrolment opens, we’ll start to send out your next steps information to those who have completed the first two stages above. We’ll send this to the email address you used on your application. If you do not receive your email, please check your spam folders.

Next, we need you to enter a phone number and alternative email address. This is so that you can reset your own password if you ever get locked out of your account. Please click the button below to continue the process.

Stage 2: Next Steps
UDOL students will receive the enrolment email to complete their enrolment 24 hours from when they create their account password.
University of Derby students: Once enrolment is open, we'll be sending out further information to the email address you applied with, so please check your junk/SPAM folders. For further welcome information please go to https://www.derby.ac.uk/study/support/welcome/
Buxton and Leek College students: You should have all you need in the letter you received through the post. If you have any questions please contact Buxton and Leek College on 0800 0740099.
Stage 3 - Registering for the password management system
During this stage you will add a phone number and email address in to our Self Service Password Reset system. This means that you will never be locked out of your account as you will be able to reset your password and unlock your account using your phone number or email account. Please see the link below for further instructions on how to register your phone number and alternative email address in the system:
When you click on the stage 3 button, you will navigate to the page shown below:
1. Please type in your student ID that is shown at the top of the email invitation.
Buxton and Leek students: this will be 3 letters followed by 8 numbers followed by @unimail.derby.ac.uk for example AAA00000000@unimail.derby.ac.uk.
University of Derby students: this will be 9 numbers beginning with 100 or 019 followed by @unimail.derby.ac.uk for example firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com as shown on the page below.
2. Once you have clicked on the next button, you will then be asked for your password;
3. Once you are signed in, you'll be able to setup your phone number (landline or mobile) and/or email address in the screen shown below.
4. You'll be asked to verify the details you provide as described in the "Register your details in the password management system" guide which is shown at the start of stage 2. Once you finish the steps please close down the screen and read your stage 3 information as discussed below in the next stage.
