Location: The LapSafe is located on the upper ground floor in the discussion zone in the Library at Kedleston Road as shown in the pictures below:
The LapSafe is a self-service laptop trolley for student use to self issue laptops within the KR Library. The trolley allows laptops to be charged when not in use. The LapSafe links into the Alma system for issuing and discharging of laptops.
Software Included:
Standard Laptop:
- Google Chrome
- Office 365
- Apps Anywhere (more applications will be available whilst students are on-site at the University sites)
Computing and Engineering Laptop:
- All standard Software
- Autodesk Suite (Including AutoCAD, Civl3D, Recap, Inventor, Maya and Motion Builder)
- SolidWorks
- MatLab
Feature & Security updates will be deployed via Cloud services both on and off-site.
Instructions to issue a laptop:
Step 1: In the centre of the LapSafe, on the screen, touch ‘4 Hour Laptop loan or 2 week loan’
Step 2: 'Scan' your student card in the slot below the screen
Step 3: On the screen 'accept' the Terms and Conditions
Step 4: Please take note of the 'Return Time' and 'Bay Number'
Step 5: The bay number will 'flash' now move to the relevant column
Step 6: 'Open' the door of the lapSafe
Step 7: 'Unplug' and 'remove the Laptop'
Step 8: 'Close the door' of the lapSafe
Step 9: 'Log into the device on-site before taking it home'
LAPTOP LOAN SERVICE TERMS & CONDITIONS
I agree to the following Terms and Conditions:
- I will provide my personal student ID card and allow my details to be used for administration of the service.
- I recognise that the laptop and charging cable will remain the property of the University of Derby and borrowers must comply with the University’s IT Acceptable Use policy:https://www.derby.ac.uk/services/its/policies/
- I recognise that the laptop will be loaned for a two-week period, and I will only be required to return the laptop during this period if recalled.
- I am responsible for the return of any item which is borrowed by me, and I am responsible for any loss or damage incurred.
- I will collect a laptop and charging cable from the Library LapSafe to use the laptop.
- I will only use the laptop and charging cable whilst studying at the University and recognise the laptop cannot be used by University of Derby Alumni or visitors.
- I will contact the Library helpdesk immediately if I notice any damage to the laptop and/or the charging cable.
- If the returned laptop and/or charging cable is found to be damaged or unclean, I recognise that I may incur charges for repair or replacement.
- If I fail to return the laptop and/or charging cable after three reminders, I will be required to pay the total cost of the replacement up to a maximum of £500.
- I recognise that the University is not responsible for any damage to files or local data loss incurred whilst using the laptop.
- I will strongly consider using Cloud Storage to ensure files are not lost.
- I will use AppsAnywhere/Cloudpaging Player to access the software needed for my studies.
- I will return the laptop and charging cable once it is no longer required to ensure it is available for other students.
- I will log out of the laptop before returning it and I will ensure that my work is backed up before returning the laptop.
- I will return the laptop and charging cable to the Library LapSafe when it is recalled for maintenance.
