SPSS - Install and Activate on your Personal Device – IT Services - University of Derby

This guide will show you how to install the latest version of SPSS onto your own personal Windows computer or Mac.

For the guide to show how to activate the app, jump to the licensing section.

Note: To run SPSS on a university student computer, launch it from 'Apps Anywhere' on the desktop.

Important: Uninstall any previous version of SPSS from your computer (this will not delete any SPSS files you have created from your PC) before installing the latest version.

To download the setup file and install the software on your computer, please follow the steps below.

1. Sign into UDo and select the My Blackboard tile

2. On the Institution Page scroll down to the Useful Links section and then find Software Downloads

3. SPSS will show in the list of software - click the SPSS link

4. On the SPSS Software Download page, click the link to the version of SPSS you require in the list, for the device type you require (Windows/Mac) and save the file to a suitable location on your Device

Please also make a note of the licence code for your respective version.

5. Once downloaded, install the software on your device.

Licensing

A new window will open click Launch License Wizard:

Please note that these screenshots are from a Windows device but the guidance is similar or Macs.

Note: if you didn't tick the box you can launch IBM SPSS Statistics from the start menu:

14. Ensure the Authorized user licence is selected:

15. The licence code can be found on the site where the setup file was downloaded from (see step 1 to 3 above). Enter the code into the box and click Add:

The code will move into the larger box below, click Next:

16. The software will then authorise, click Next:

17. The software licence has now been activated, click Finish to complete the process:

You have now installed SPSS and licensed it. You can now use the program.
