About the AirMedia Dongle
The dongle is a small device that lets you wirelessly share your computer screen on a main display without needing to install any software or drivers.
Each dongle is pre paired to a room and will work with both Microsoft Windows or Apple macOS.
How to Use the AirMedia Dongle in a Classroom.
On the classroom's control panel, press “Cast”.
The room will turn on, and switch to AirMedia. (If the room is already on, it will just switch to AirMedia.)- Plug the USB-C cable on the dongle into the USB-C port on your laptop.
- Once the dongle is connected, its backlit share button will change colour from white to green.
(If your screen is not automatically shared, and the button remains white, try tapping it)
When you’re finished, simply unplug the dongle form your laptop.
Using Room Mics and Cameras
The AirMedia dongle will also give your laptop access to the room's camera and microphones for Panopto recording and video calls (if the system is set up for it).
NB: This feature is available in Cavendish Classrooms, Teams Meeting Rooms, but not Lecture theatres.
A peripheral button on the dongle will light up if the camera and microphone are available. The peripherals will automatically be shared with your laptop, and the light will turn from white to green.
(Should the peripherals light remain white after a few moments, try tapping it.)
You can then select these devices in Panopto or your meeting software, like Teams, to use them for your call.
Using the AirMedia Dongle in a Teams meeting room
If using a Teams Meeting room which has an AirMedia dongle installed, it is the main way to connect to the display.
As above, you connect it to your laptops USB-C port, but there is no need to select "cast" on a touch panel as the AirMedia will behave in one of two ways, detailed below.
1. With no active call on the Teams touch panel, it will display a pop up asking if you wish to Present" or "Host".
If you press "Present"
Your laptop will be displayed on the TV.
NB: This is the default action, and automatically happens if you make no selection.
If you press "Host"
Your laptop screen will appear on the TV, but additionally your laptop is given the rooms camera, microphone and speakers as selectable devices. (In Teams, for example, but also with other platforms such as Zoom).
2. If you have started a call on the rooms Teams device, your laptop will be shared in to the teams call, as if connect with a cable. The Camera, speakers and mic will remain connected to the Teams device.
