For supported devices, the recommended way to connect to eduroam is using the geteduroam app.
geteduroam supports most mobile devices, plus Windows and Linux devices. For other devices, such as Apple MacOS, please see our device specific instruction pages.
You won’t have to run the app again after you’ve run it once and connected to eduroam. Your device should connect to eduroam automatically when it’s in range, however on some platforms the OS may prefer other networks that you configured manually. If you uninstall the app, all eduroam configuration is removed with it, so do keep the app installed while you are enrolled.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Install the geteduroam App
Use one of the following options depending on your device’s Operating System.
iOS / iPadOS (iPhone/iPad)
Open the App Store and search for “geteduroam”.
Tap Get to install.
Android
Open the Google Play Store, search for “geteduroam”, and tap Install.
Windows
Linux
2. Open the App and Select Your Institution
When you launch the app, you’ll be prompted to choose your institution.
✔ Search for University of Derby
✔ Tap to select it

3. Sign in Using Your University of Derby Account
Enter your credentials:

Username:
Students → studentnumber@unimail.derby.ac.uk
Staff → username@derby.ac.uk - Password: Your standard University password
Tap Connect.
If prompted, accept the configuration installation.

4. Wait for Configuration to Complete
The app will automatically:
- Install the secure eduroam Wi‑Fi profile
- Add the required certificates
- Connect your device to the eduroam network
Once complete, you should see a success message similar to:
✅ You are connected to the eduroam network
5. Verify Connection
On your device, check Wi‑Fi settings and confirm:
Connected to: eduroam
If the device doesn’t connect immediately, toggle Wi‑Fi off/on.
Troubleshooting
Common Issues

| Incorrect username | Ensure you use the full username including @derby.ac.uk or @unimail.derby.ac.uk |
| Wrong password | Try logging into UDo to confirm password works |
| Previously installed profiles | Remove older eduroam profiles before running geteduroam again |
| Android certificate errors | Ensure system updates are installed |
