If you have forgotten or need to change your password (Staff) – IT Services - University of Derby

Working from home: To change your password while off-campus you will need to connect to Cisco Any connect VPN first, otherwise your laptop wont receive the new password from our servers.

Please go to: https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com/ to access the password reset system (opens in a new tab).

Instructions

1. Enter your login username followed by @derby.ac.uk;

2. Enter the characters in the picture;

3. Click Next;

4. Ensure that I've forgotten my password is selected and click Next;

5. Choose your preferred communication method so a code can be sent for verification;

6. Retrieve the verification code from either your Authenticator app, text, or phone call and enter this into the text box on screen;

7. Enter a new password. This should be unique to your University account. The password should be 12 characters minimum (for example based on three random words) and include a combination of any 3 of the following:

Lowercase letters
Uppercase letters
Numbers
Special characters e.g.
@ # $ % ^ & * - _ ! + = [ ] { } | \ : ‘ , . ? / ` ~ “ ( )

The password must not contain:

Your name
Your username
A password you have previously used in the system

After changing your password:

Note: After changing your password, you will need to forget the Eduroam Wi-Fi connection, to reconnect with your new password. Please see this guide: https://itservicecentre.derby.ac.uk/hc/en-us/articles/360001368925-Eduroam-Wireless-Network

You may also see prompts in Microsoft Office applications and Teams, such as "You need to sign in again" or "Sign in required". Click the "Sign in" button and enter your new password, to continue.
