What is AppsAnywhere?
AppsAnywhere is our web-based software library that allows access to hundreds of software applications from any University computer across campus. It provides access to software applications that cover a wide breadth of topics which support the work of staff and students.
AppsAnywhere can be accessed via the desktop icon on all Windows University computers, or by navigating to: appsanywhere.derby.ac.uk/managed
Access from personal computers
The AppsAnywhere platform can be accessed from your own personal computer, allowing for access to a small subset of applications, whether you are on or off campus. There are a few steps you will need to follow to get going with AppsAnywhere on your device, click the button below for details:
FAQs
- This is my first time using AppsAnywhere, how do I use it?
- You can check out the User Guide which provides information on how to use AppsAnywhere.
- I can't see a certain application when accessing AppsAnywhere from my own device, why is that?
- At present, only a small subset of our suite of software applications will be available to access on your personal device.
- Certain software applications can only function when connected to the University network, so you won't see these when you're connecting in from home. Some software vendors also impose specific licence restrictions on how the software can be accessed.
- What operating system is required to use AppsAnywhere on my own device?
- Whilst you can access the AppsAnywhere website from any device, you will need to be running Microsoft Windows to launch the applications within AppsAnywhere. Apple macOS / Google Chromebooks are not supported.
- Applications are tested against the latest release of Windows 10 (64-bit), so IT Services cannot guarantee how applications will operate when using any version older than this.
- What is the 'Cloudpaging Player'?
- To allow applications to be delivered to your device, a service called Cloudpaging is used; this allows pieces of the application to be streamed down to your device as you are using the app, so you don't have to wait for the whole application to be download before you can use it. This makes it quicker for you to get going with your application.
- If you are accessing AppsAnywhere from home, you will need to install the Cloudpaging Player to load applications, as detailed on the Getting Started page.
- I am looking for a specialist piece of software but cannot find it, where can I access it?
- If you are looking for a particular piece of specialist software, you may find that it has been installed directly into a computer lab on campus, so you won't find it in AppsAnywhere. You can check the Specialist Software Availability list to find the software installed into labs.
- You can also find details on accessing additional software during your studies: Student Software A-Z.
- When I access AppsAnywhere, it says "Validation in process..." - what does this mean?
- So that AppsAnywhere can show the applications that are only relevant to you, it will first check to see if your device is a personal device or a University computer; this is called validation.
- If this validation fails, try closing your web browser and re-launch AppsAnywhere to try it again. You can also try clearing cookies in your web browser if you continue to experience issues.
- When you access AppsAnywhere on your own device, you will need to install the AppsAnywhere Client so that this validation can take place before you will be able to access your applications, as detailed on the Getting Started page.
