This guide aims to give users new to Blackboard collaborate a simple guide on how to ensure you can connect to a session you have been invited to.
Firstly you will be sent a link to your Blackboard collaborate session by your representative at the University of Derby.
Note: Collaborate sessions can also be accessed by logging into Blackboard, select the Modules link on the left, select the module and click the Collaborate virtual classroom link on the left-hand menu.
Following this link will take you to the below screen:
Please enter your name in the name field to continue.
On the next page, in the top left corner you will be asked whether or not you wish to allow this website to access your microphone. Please allow this.
You will then be asked to test your microphone audio. Here you must select the appropriate microphone that you are using
If the correct microphone is connected, the purple bar in the centre will move up and down when you speak or make noise.
If the bar shows no movement, please check that you are using the correct microphone device. To do this click on the drop-down box and select the microphone you are using.
You many need to try more than one microphone to find the correct one you are using. Please also note that the microphone on your PC will likely be named differently than the ones seen above.
When you are happy and have your microphone working. Press the "Yes its working" button and continue to the next section.
You will then be asked to do the same for your webcam.
The webcam is optional as content from your power-point or main screen can be shown instead once you are in the meeting room. How to do this will be covered in another guide.
After your webcam is setup continue to your session.
On your first entrance to a Collaborate session, you may have the option of taking a tutorial through the different features available. If you are new to this system, I would suggest taking the tutorial before continuing.
If you experience any issues with your devices or accessing a collaborate session you can report this to the IT Service Centre via the channels below, along with images of any error messages received.
