What is MFA?
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a way to check that you, and only you, obtain access to your account. Once enabled, you will receive a request for more information when you sign-in. The best experience is achieved by installing the Microsoft Authentication app on your phone and adding your phone number as a backup. The Authenticator app can be used without access to Wi-Fi or a mobile phone signal. Other Authentication apps are available if you already use one. Services will use the default method to contact you.
Please see this guide that explains MFA further.
It is important to keep your details up to date, for example, if you change your phone number.
How to setup MFA
There are a few different methods available that allow you to validate your sign in, please select your preferred method below.
If you wish to receive a notification via an Authenticator app on your phone or tablet (the most secure method), choose this option. You will not need to change anything if you visit a different country.
If you choose this method you will need to keep the Authenticator App on your device.
Backup your Authenticator app
It's important to back up your Authenticator app configuration so you can transfer it to another phone or tablet if required. Please follow this guide that shows how to configure the backup.
If you would prefer to receive a text message or phone call to validate, choose this option. If you plan to visit another country, you will need to update your phone number before you go.
Note - approval is required for this method. If you are on placement where phones are banned or you don't own a smartphone or tablet, please select this option. Your request will need to be approved by our Cyber Security team and you will be given a 'One time password' (OTP) card.
